Lake Monger Community Shed

Disability Inclusion Overview

Sheds are self-directed recreation spaces where members can engage in a variety of activities. Sheds are volunteer run organisations.

While supervisors may assist with induction, equipment checks or general guidance, there is no formal instruction or classes. Those attending a Shed will undertake projects on their own and with the relevant support they require to engage meaningfully in the shed.

How do I get involved with the Shed?

It’s important to find the best fit for anyone who comes to the Shed. We have the following available at this Shed.

  • Woodwork

  • Metalwork

  • Pottery

  • 3D Making

  • Art

For those with limited capacity to engage with these areas, we encourage you to talk to us about how you can be involved socially or through volunteer roles.

Information for support workers

Sheds recognise that some people with disability have funded support workers who assist them to participate in their community. When attending a Shed with the person you support, it’s important that you as a support worker complete the inductions and where practical, are a consistent support for the person attending the Shed.

Support worker induction process:

  • Be inducted in use of high-risk equipment and provide support and safeguarding for the person with disability you support while working on tasks together.

  • Provide the Shed with a copy of your own or your organisation’s public liability insurance.

  • Complete induction paperwork for support workers.

What happens if my regular support worker isn’t available?

To ensure everyone's safety, individuals who require support to use equipment must be accompanied by an inducted support worker. If the inducted support worker is not available on the day, the individual may not be able to use the equipment. However, they are warmly encouraged to still attend, enjoy morning or afternoon tea, and be part of the vibrant Shed community.

Information for family carers

Sheds recognise that some people with disability may require a family member to come along with them to support them to participate in the Shed. Carers must have their own insurance and register with the Shed. Alternatively, a Carer may wish to join the Shed as a member to enjoy the benefits of the Shed and support their family member with a disability.
