Glaze/Kiln Master Training

Learn how to manage a Kiln and production of effective glazes

EndedGregory Street

Service Description

The ceramics program at LMCS is so successful due in large part to a small group of knowledgable members know as the Glaze/Kiln Masters, who volunteer their time to mix glazes and fire kilns for all other ceramics members at LMCS. From time to time the Glaze/Kiln Masters needs to refresh their ranks, and that is why we are contacting you. LMCS is offering an amazing new training program - FREE - to anyone who would like to be certified as an LMCS Glaze/Kiln Master. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn all about the practicalities of how to mix glazes and fire kilns. If you have always wanted to know more about how glazes work and what goes on in our firings, then this course is for you. If you are thinking one day you might like to set up your own studio and kiln at home, you will not want to miss this. In this workshop we will cover everything you need to know to get started understanding, mixing and maintaining glazes. We will go through how electric kilns work, how to operate them, and what happens in the different types of firings. At all times the focus will be on practical skillbuilding and the knowledge necessary to successfully mix glazes and fire kilns at LMCS. Our trainer is Curt McDonald, a long-time Perth potter recently arrived at LMCS who over the years has conducted such workshops at places like Perth Studio Potters and the Australian Ceramics Triennial (Hobart), as well as small group private workshops around Perth.
